The new EAA has completely disabled the union website contact feature, twitter connection and wiped clean all member comments. With the advent of new MOU negotiations taking place in 1-2 days, not a single EAA member will be able to post any comments about the activities of our union. The excuse of website rehabilitation has been floated as a reason for disabling this fundamental channel of communication and group information.

I’m very disappointed with our new non-transparent union leadership.

The MOU’s forbid strikes, and so employees would be subject to discipline. Unfortunately, labor is held to its side of the contract, but the city isn’t. The only hope would be an EAA victory in the lawsuit with the California Supreme Court. Even then, with the coalition re-opener clause, I don’t know if there’s much the Coalition can do.

The best strategy for the Coalition would be not to extend the flawed MOUs any further. The sooner it’s over, the sooner they get back their bargaining power.

It will be interesting to see how the new Board continues to progress our MOU negotiations. Perhaps, that will be members’ first real indication of the Board’s true intent. I am sure that the outgoing Board will be more than happy to assist in appraising them of the negotiations thus far.
