Los Angeles City Attorneys Association Recommends it’s members “Vote NO” On Coalition Amendment.
Citing numerous serious deficiencies in the Amendment which are not in the best interest of it’s members and city employees as a whole the Los Angeles City Attorneys Association has voted to recommend a NO Vote to its members.
In a document entitled “REASONS TO VOTE “NO” R E: THE AMENDMENT TO THE LOA” that has been widely distributed the City Attorneys have carefully reviewed the proposal before us and made the case we will be better without this agreement.
Read for yourself the
Document linked above and decide for yourself, we can accept the claims made by the city, or we can look at holding the City financially responsible.
Furloughs hurt the city and the employees equally, These concessions are permanent and NO Layoff protection is included whatsoever the choice is yours make an educated decision.

I feel everyone should know the following facts:
1) UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE CONTRACT THAT THE CITY AND RETIREES HAVE WITH OUR CARRIERS TO PROVIDE
HEALTH INSURANCE, ONCE EVERY INSURED REACHES AGE 65 EACH IS REQUIRED TO MIGRATE TO MEDICARE COVERAGE.
THE BENEFIT THAT IS BEING “GUARANTEED” OR “VESTED” BY THE TERMS OF THE NEW LOA IS FINITE AND NOT SO VALUABLE AS REPRESENTED.
2) OUR UNION REPRESENTATIVES, COALITION OR SEIU, ARE MANDATED TO VIGOROUSLY REPRESENT EACH AND EVERYONE OF USE AND DEFEND THE TERMS OF OUR MOU, WHETHER THEY AGREE WITH THE TERMS OR NOT. THE UNIONS OWE A FIDUCIARY DUTY TO ALL OF US AND CANNOT TREAT YOUR UNIT ANY DIFFERENTLY EVEN IF YOU VOTE AGAINST THE LOA.
Their editorial:
We are in a “no win” situation. If you read the coalitions explanation of the LOA the paint this new agreement As providing us increased income. SO HOW WILL IT PLAY OUT IN THE PRESS AND PUBLIC OPINION WHEN THE CITY SAYS, TRUTHFULLY, THAT THEY HAD TO PROMISE US MORE MONEY TO GET OUR COOPERATION!!
AND IF WE REJECT IT WE AREN’T SHARING THE “SACRIFICE”
In my opinion, we are not currently being well represented, either by SEIU or the Coalition and I applaud our LACAA Board for taking stand. THEY RECOMMEND REJECTING THE NEW “AGREEMENT”!
I believe that recent history demonstrates that we have to take our Unions more seriously and be more participatory in their efforts to represent us!
