To the average worker this is a bad sign, to me it is just another round in the planning stages of another sell job to make further concessions. Coalition leaders have planned a meeting for this coming Saturday March 10th and Every single member MUST Attend and demand they end the concessions or we will be seeing yet another contract amendment. Without the support of several hundred of my co-workers from AFSCME 3090, LIUNA 777, SEIU 721, Teamsters 911 & Operator and Engineers 501, LACAA & EAA to stand with me we will be facing unprecedented concessions. The time has come for us as a workforce to take a stand we have one chance this Saturday to show up in force and scare the union straight if we don’t exercise control and end this immediately the CAO will continue his attacks on the workers and residents of this great city.
LA City Workers have collectively saved the City of Los Angeles over 1.5 billion in real world dollars, or “Austerity measures” if you listen to the CAO.
Harsh reality is Los Angeles was never in the financial mess it claimed it was, it put itself there. Creative accounting, reserve funds, reserve funds for the reserve fund, any way the City could reduce it’s income and increase its liability it used sometimes planning and acting before a fiscal emergency declaration was even made, budgeting for furloughs as if they were an acceptable method of bargaining forcing employees back to the table every year of a contract extending it and pushing the rewards farther and farther away while inflation, the price of gas, food and other items skyrockets LA City employees are forced to continue to work harder and earn less then ever before.
While our unions continue to cater to the politicians the workers are left out in the cold. This will ONLY end by forcibly shutting down the Yes voters and union sympathisers, while we stand up take our rights back. Without this participation which I am asking for we will be voting again and we will be mysteriously outvoted again by the powers that be.
Join me as I fight for all LA City Workers on Saturday, March 10 at 9 a.m. at the New SEIU 721 Office located at 1545 Wilshire Boulevard and demand a unified front to say NO to more Givebacks!
[mappress mapid="2"]Previous Contract Amendments have hurt the workers.
Lets examine the failed policy of contract amendments past as we have warned, and never waivered our contracts offer zero layoff protection, and our retiree health care was always vested.
Workforce StabilizationThe parties recognize the magnitude of the financial crisis may require the City to exercise its management right to reorganize and possibly reduce the size of the workforce … |
