Usually the Purple menace invades, pillages and raids other unions, this time forces at work have begun dismantling SEIU 721 and Julie Butcher is directly to blame.

Since at least 2009 employment at SEIU 721 was based on who you knew not what you knew and friends of friends promoted to 100,000 a year jobs like there was no tomorrow.

J.J. Straight and Bob Schoonover along with Julie Butcher led SEIU 721 into the ground from making promises they couldn’t keep to MOU 08 & 17, making deals with the City such as ERIP, & furloughs, and the so called vesting of health care with no cap for the city to grind us year after year. These shady deals have led to a significant lack of confidence in the leaders who run SEIU 721.

LA City Attorneys First to Leave SEIU 721

LACAA has officially ended their affiliation with SEIU 721 after the dishonest illegal tactics and dangerous backstabbing of the membership by SEIU.

With dozens of violations outlined in a letter served on SEIU they were forced to end the relationship before it lead to permanent disastrous consequences to the LA City Attorneys.

Clearly members are unhappy with the union as a whole and have begun not only discussing the decertification of SEIU 721 but also meeting with other unions and organizations to affiliate with by forming their own association.

Path Forward

It is critical that the Executive Board, along with the new Executive director Steve Matthews begin working on these issues and resolving them in order to move forward with rebuilding the relationship between members and the union.

Removing road blocks such as senior staff who have violated their duty to the members, standing firm on a no concession platform ending years of abuse of the workforce at the hands of management and fighting to protect the jobs of the membership. Building real leaders who can think independently and not just those who are easily manipulated.

SEIU 721 has a chance to retain a units if they will run the union the way a union should be run and fight for the members.
